Matilda is the Cloaking Burrow-nit that appears in Pikmin: Antarctic Survival. She is encountered in the Trampled Tundra, uniquely encountered along with Argus, with whom she has formed a "defensive formation" to protect both of them in hunting. She can be a useful creature to Awaken if the Diamond Settlement has excess wood, due to her Wood Eater skill.
Matilda is always encountered alongside Argus the Joustmite, and the two of them will never separate prior to their Awakening. When the two of them are together, both Matilda and Argus will press themselves together, with Argus in the front and Matilda in the back, forming a single moving entity which is protected on both its front and back. This tactic renders both of them nearly completely protected from all harm, with the only way that they can possibly be damaged being if they can be forcibly separated, or if something strikes them with enough force to damage them through their shells.
Matilda and Argus have known each other their whole lives, having been childhood friends since they were both larvae. The two of them have always done nearly everything together, which continues into their time in the Antarctic. When Awakened, the two of them remain nearly inseparable, working together and conversing together in the settlement. It is possible that the two burrow-nits have romantic feelings for one another, though both of them deny this, stating they're "just good friends."
Matilda's name translates to "mighty in battle", possibly referencing her powerful spearing proboscis and shell armor.

Cloaking Burrow-nits will deconstruct nearby bridges, similarly to Sheargrubs. This creature isn't seen too often, and is not very dangerous, as it only can kill one Pikmin at a time when it attacks. This creature's relatives, the Joustmite and the Flighty Joustmite, look different but nevertheless possess the familiar proboscis and eye-markings.

The Cloaking Burrow-nit hides underground with its large shell protruding to the surface. The eye-like markings appear on the back of the shell, so what appears to be its front-side from a distance is actually its rear. When approached, a Burrow-nit will hastily raise its full body to the surface and begin its attack. Its shell protects its rear end entirely, and any Pikmin that lands there will simply slide off. Its face, however, is not protected and can be damaged easily, as it needs to be facing its prey to attack. Though the Burrow-nit is a creature of decent size, it will be defeated within seconds if attacked by a considerable number of Pikmin.

The creature has one basic attack: it will shoot its proboscis out to quite a range, snagging the first Pikmin it comes in contact with. Once in the creature's grip, a Pikmin will be eaten after a few seconds. If it eats a White Pikmin, the creature will die instantly. When being attacked the Burrow-nit may also shake all Pikmin from it.

Notes
The Cloaking Burrow-nit appears in Pikmin: Ultimate Doom. It has slightly altered behaviors in that it has a lower detection range, almost an inch of its body. Additionally, in each area it appears in, the Cloaking Burrow-nit has a distinct appearance.
Olimar's notes
:"The snake-eye pattern on this beast's shell is one of the most distinctive features of the burrow-nit family. The red pattern of the cloaking burrow-nit and the spikes around its mantle make it easily identifiable while still making it a representative specimen of the burrow-nit family. The shell on the cloaking burrow-nit's back also provides a frame that fixes its muscular structure in place, and appears to give the creature its powerful needle-launching attack."

Burrow-nits will deconstruct nearby stick bridges, similar to sheargrubs.

The Cloaking Burrow-nit appears in Pikmin V alongside its relative, the Joustmite. The two are often found together, tricking leaders as to which direction they should be approached from. Its new design increases the overhang of the shell over the face, making it harder to throw Pikmin at it instead of rushing.

Notes

Brittany's notes

Once exclusive in territory to its close relative the Joustmite, the two have increasingly begun not just overlapping range, but cohabiting entirely. Their ability to confound predators, particularly Pikmin, with opposite-facing shells has proven quite effective. I suspect it's only a matter of time before we begin seeing hybrids if not valid crossbreeds, which may require a reworking of their taxonomy.

Olimar's notes

Caution must be taken when attacking, as it is only vulnerable where it is capable of fighting back. Keep strafing in circles and chip away at the area between the proboscis and its shell. Rock Pikmin are immune to its one attack, though getting hits in is difficult due to the eave of its shell.

Louie's notes

I like to come up with different recipes for the same grub on this planet to mix it up a little. But you really can't beat boiled Burrow-nit, especially since the body sticks so strongly to the shell that there aren't many ways to serve it anyway.
