Rock Pikmin, also known as Gray Pikmin internally, are a returning Pikmin type appearing in Pikmin 2... Again?. They are discovered in the Crumbling Dungeon, being obtained exclusively from Slate Candypop Buds, found only in caves, as they lack an Onion. The Rock Pikmin are a gray parasitic species, specifically a Hermikmin, and resemble other Pikmin, but their body is covered by a gray polished rock that, like in p3, glows red when they are on fire. Its limbs, eyes, and stem protrude from its rocky coating, which its limbs and stem are slightly lighter than. They are also slightly lighter and have a bright-bluish hue to avoid possible confusion with both the Lichen Pikmin and the Original Pikmin. Rock Pikmin dig at the same speed as Yellow Pikmin and Green Pikmin, but not Claw Pikmin. | |||
Rock Pikmin are most useful for destroying crystalline solids with enough hits, including normal crystal, ice blocks, and even the facial shields of most salguns. When thrown, a Rock Pikmin will execute a headbutt attack that inflicts a tremendous 45 damage, the most of any Pikmin's attack and more than twice that of the Purple Pikmin, and has a larger impact effect than when Pikmin strike an enemy normally coupled with gray stars flying off from the impact, an aesthetic feature. To compensate, Rock Pikmin are unable to latch onto enemies due to their rocky bodies, a disadvantage shared by Bulbmin and their lack of arms, and will simply be knocked back upon impact and then begin attacking from the ground if not called back. On the ground, Rock Pikmin will charge at their target in an attempt to tackle them, inflicting significantly less damage, the same as a Red Pikmin, than their attack when thrown, making them far more effective when thrown. | |||
The Rock Pikmin's main use is that they are at least partially resistant to all forms of blunt force, which include crushing, impaling, hitting, and cutting. For crushing, Rock Pikmin will be partially buried in the ground, and although they can not be plucked, they will recover from this state on their own, and at a faster rate if whistled. If crushed on a hard surface, however, Rock Pikmin will die like any other Pikmin, their coating shattering apart. For impaling, Rock Pikmin will only be knocked back a fair distance depending on the force of the impact. Lastly, for hitting and cutting, Rock Pikmin will be always knocked back without dying. | |||

Rock Pikmin are found in Pikmin V fifth area, Silent Woods. While fundamentally the same as in p3, the specifics of its attributes have all been changed drastically to specialize it as an actively kept Pikmin type by leaders. It no longer has a unique calculation for damage when thrown onto a target, and its damage when not thrown has been significantly decreased to the point of near-uselessness. Its inability to latch onto enemies now extends to all forms of climbing, such as Burgeoning Spiderworts and the legs of the Icebound Long Legs. It also moves a little slower than it used to, but still not as slow as Purple Pikmin. In exchange, it gains the ability to break spikes alongside crystals, and the weakening of the Purple Pikmin's ground pound makes thrown Rock Pikmin significantly stronger and easier to land than them. Flavorwise, its appearance is a lot neater to reflect the fact that it's not actually a rock, and its Candypop Bud has been named the Slate Candypop Bud. | |||

Rock Pikmin are the fourth Pikmin type discovered in Pikmin: Before the Impact. They can break crystal and glass with their hard, shiny bodies. Their comparatively softer limbs and stems are gray and on the end of their stem is, depending on maturity, a green leaf or a purple-petaled bud or flower. Rock Pikmin are found in Snakey Mists, trapped within a Medusal Slurker, and can only be created when other Pikmin are sucked up by a Medusal Slurker. Under the command of Brandon, Rock Pikmin have increased speed and can be thrown higher. | |||

{{quote|We found the Rock Pikmin! Thank goodness, we can now break through crystals and other hard materials with their heavy weight. Rock Pikmin are a returning type of Pikmin in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. They are one of the first types to be discovered. Unlike most Pikmin types, the Rock Pikmin has a round, rocky body made out of a gray stone. They have two stubby legs and feet with three toes, along with two arms with hands that have four fingers. They have two eyes with white sclerae and large black pupils, and a tall stem on the top of their head that can sprout into a leaf, bud, or purple flower. The voice of a Rock Pikmin is much more gravelly. They have their own Onion, the Rock Onion, which can be merged into the Master Onion. To create more Rock Pikmin without an Onion, throw other Pikmin types into a Rock Candypop Bud. | |||
The Rock Pikmin has a few traits that make up for its weaknesses. Due to its body structure, Rock Pikmin cannot latch onto enemies to repeatedly hit with their stems. However, throwing one at an enemy will cause a massive impact that does significant damage, as compared to constant damage. This will cause them to fall over and roll back on impact, before getting back up and running at the enemies to run into them again, repeating the process. They can still climb up plants, and attack smaller objects like nectar eggs with their stems, however. It's noted that sending a squad of Rock Pikmin to attack on their own is not as efficient as the captain throwing them themselves. The Rock Pikmin's heavy impact allows for them to damage any material, object, or hazard comprised out of crystal. Whether its crystal found on water geysers, treasures trapped in chunks of crystal, or enemies made of or covered in crystal like the Calcified Crushblat and Crystaltongue Wollyhop, the Rock Pikmin can damage these crystals. It will take multiple hits from Rock Pikmin to destroy the crystal material, depending on the enemy or crystal size. They can also damage enemies covered in tough armor easier like the Claymard Crusher, or enemies covered in thorns or spikes like the Thorny Waddlepus. Like Weighted Pikmin, enemies that eat Rock Pikmin take a significantly longer time to consume them due to their composition. | |||
Rock Pikmin are immune to an extremely common hazard: blunt force. Any blunt force that comes from any source will simply knock back Rock Pikmin, and potentially deflower them. This mainly is seen by skewering attacks from enemies like the Joustmite, or jabbing attacks from enemies like the Burrowing Snagret. If the attack is a regular bite attack, then they will be eaten. Along with this, they are somewhat resistant to explosions from any source, and have a greater chance of surviving them. Rock Pikmin that are crushed from objects like bowling balls, or from enemies like the Raging Long Legs will simply be buried, before popping back out of the ground for a few seconds. | |||
In Overlord mode, the damage from a Rock Pikmin throw is somewhat weakened. | |||

{{notes|Olimar's notes|Rock Pikmin, like most Pikmin, come from the Ambuloradicis class, which are creatures that exhibit plant-like characteristics. Rock Pikmin don't have a natural, fleshy body like most Pikmin; they're comprised entirely of stone. In Pikmin: Wide World, Rock Pikmin are the first of 3 main Pikmin species discovered at Ancient Metalworks. They can not be crushed, only buried in soft terrain like any other Pikmin and pinned under the force on hard terrain, and also can not be impaled, the force of which merely flings them away. They also have partial resistance to explosions in that they survive 50% of the time. Rock Pikmin have average attack power, mobility, throw range, and digging speed, but their attack power will increase dramatically when thrown. A Rock Pikmin's defining features are its rock-like shell, which may have a variety of shapes, gray skin, and indigo petals. The voice of a Rock Pikmin is more gravelly than that of other Pikmin. Pikmin can be thrown into a Slate Candypop to convert them into Rock Pikmin. Rock Pikmin are one of the two most damaging Pikmin types, the other being Purple Pikmin. | |||
Rock Pikmin that are thrown at an object or enemy will bounce off of it after the initial hit and will continue lunging at the target if left unoccupied, which does significantly less damage than if thrown. No matter what, they can damage and destroy crystal, ice, and solids made of similar materials that are worn as armor by some enemies. As they are immune to being impaled, Rock Pikmin can also be used to harm spiked enemies. Additionally, Rock Pikmin take slightly longer to eat than other Pikmin, and a distinct crunching noise can be heard as they are chewed. Unlike most other Pikmin, Rock Pikmin are incapable of clinging onto or climbing enemies, vegetation, objects, and structures because of their physiology. | |||

Appearance in Pikmin 4. | |||
Scientific name | Pikminidae habisaxum | ||
Family | Pikmin |
Rock Pikmin are a species of Pikmin. They resemble small polished rocks with Pikmin eyes and limbs, and have lavender petals, like Winged Pikmin. The main part of their bodies seems to be a graphite texture that reflects light, whereas their stems, arms, and legs appear to be smooth and gray. Rock Pikmin have an Onion and are reproduced from it through collecting nutrients or by throwing other Pikmin into Rock Candypop Buds.
Their hard, rocky bodies give them several special abilities. They crack and eventually destroy crystalline solids they hit, possess blunt force immunity, and have a different method of attacking than other Pikmin. When crushed, they are only driven into the ground and become temporarily partially buried; when a creature with a sharp proboscis tries to impale them, they are knocked away harmlessly. Due to their shape, being thrown at an enemy or obstacle will have them inflict a significant amount of damage and then bounce off and roll backward; they cannot cling to enemies. When attacking on their own, they repeatedly lunge at enemies and obstacles, rolling backward upon impact and getting up again. When made to climb a structure or plant, or are attacking another Pikmin, they will cling on like the other Pikmin types, and they won't lunge except when attacking a leader.

The Rock Pikmin are a gray parasitic species, specifically a Hermikmin, and resemble other Pikmin, but their body is covered by a gray polished rock that, like in Pikmin 3, glows red when they are on fire.

In Pikmin Forever, Rock Pikmin are an enhanced form of other Pikmin types rather than a Pikmin type itself. Finding and harvesting rubble gives leaders a supply of rocks to use on Pikmin they hold, by coating them in pebbles, temporarily transforming them into Rock Pikmin. Rock Pikmin are thrown like a track-and-field hammer and inflict one hundred damage upon impact, then reverting to its original form. A held Rock Pikmin is can have its coating removed, a process that returns the used rubble.
One Rock Pikmin can instantly destroy a crystal barrier, and inflict serious damage on other types of destructible walls. Rock Pikmin are needed to activate acoustic walls. Some enemies behave differently after suffering a hit from a Rock Pikmin, especially if they used crystal in some way.

Rock Pikmin are found in Pikmin V's fifth area, Silent Woods. While fundamentally the same as in Pikmin 3, the specifics of its attributes have all been changed drastically to specialize it as an actively kept Pikmin type by leaders.

“ | We found the Rock Pikmin! Thank goodness, we can now break through crystals and other hard materials with their heavy weight. They also seem to be immune to blunt force like crushing and jabbing, keep note, Olimar! I hope you're not rusty on your Pikmin types. | ” | – The ship, upon discovering the Rock Pikmin |
---|
Notes
- Data file #1: Rock Pikmin can break through crystals and other hard material.
- Data file #2: Enemies have a harder time eating Rock Pikmin.
- Data file #3: Although they cannot grab onto creatures, their slam attack will deal heavy damage!
- Data file #4: Rock Pikmin are immune to all forms of blunt force, or heavy impacts. They can even survive some explosions!
- Data file #5: If crushed, then Rock Pikmin will simply pop back out from the ground.
Olimar's notes
- “Rock Pikmin, like most Pikmin, come from the Ambuloradicis class, which are creatures that exhibit plant-like characteristics. Rock Pikmin don't have a natural, fleshy body like most Pikmin; they're comprised entirely of stone. It's speculated that a subspecies of parasitic Pikmin, known as Hermikmin, have infested rocks and pebbles as hosts. These Pikmin will collect large amounts of pebbles and stones to store inside of the Onion, which will inject these rocks with parasitic seeds when nutrients are transported inside of it. So really, we're just plucking a bunch of rocks from the ground. This planet sure is something...”
Louie's notes
- “You really thought I was going to eat this Pikmin? Ha! Well... maybe... Not sure...”
President’s notes
- “I'm going to take a few of these guys and throw them at the windows of debt collectors' homes! TAKE THIS!”
Overlord’s thoughts
- “Rock Pikmin are quite the anomaly. They are one of the strangest Pikmin types I have seen. Well them, and the Dart Pikmin... and the Cactus Pikmin... and the Weighted Pikmin... You know what, I take that back. It probably hurts a lot to step on one of these guys.”

Rock Pikmin are thirty millimeters tall, and while under the effects of ultra-sour spray, have a carrying capacity of five.
Notes
Captain Olimar
- “These Pikmin have an exterior that resembles the look of a rock! This gives them their name, however, I'm still researching how and why they have such a body. What's even more surprising is that they rarely use their stem other than for sunlight.”
Tang
- “My second favorite in combat, they deal massive damage when thrown. Being in numbers and charging is also a very viable strategy. Combine these guys with Purple Pikmin or Red Pikmin and you can have yourself power in either charging or throwing!”
Robin
- “Their rock-like bodies are fascinating to me, as I wonder if there is any other Pikmin that is like this. What if a Ruby Pikmin exists? Or an Emerald Pikmin? Maybe even a Diamond Pikmin? And with such ideas of having Pikmin with the capability to have differentiating bodies, I wonder if there is a Tree Pikmin? How about a Robot Pikmin? Oops- looks like I let my imagination run for a bit long, I'll stop this log now.”

Notes
- Data file #1 (all difficulties): Rock Pikmin can not be crushed on any surface or impaled.
- Data file #2 (all difficulties): Explosive force is something Rock Pikmin can sometimes survive.
- Data file #3 (all difficulties): Rock Pikmin hurt a lot more when thrown than when they lunge.
- Data file #4 (all difficulties): Crystalline solids can be destroyed by Rock Pikmin.
- Data file #5 (all difficulties): Enemies take longer to eat Rock Pikmin than any other.
- Data file #6 (all difficulties): Rock Pikmin can not cling onto anything, no matter what.
Olimar's comments
- “This particular pikmin grows a rather cumbersome shell around itself to defend itself from threats. Its rocky coating hides a majority of its scrawny pale body and rather wide head, which is vaguely hammer-shaped. The shell's density can damage and destroy crystalline solids and grants it protection from crushing and stabbing forces but not being chewed up. It also has a chance to survive explosive forces.”
Shacho's comments
- “Glad I'm not the only one that hides in a shell...”
Marie's comments
- “While they may be rocky, our bond with them isn't! They try their hardest to do what they can and I can admire that. Besides that, I think they have my favorite voice of all pikmin types.”
Louie's comments
- “CRUNCH!! Haha, just kidding.”
Dolphin Lander's comments
- “Oh no, pikmin that look like pebbles? I'll have to keep a very, very, VERY close eye... err... lens, I suppose, on any small rocks that might be in danger of being destroyed!”
