The Phosbat is the infant form of the Vehemoth Phosbat. It bears some notable resemblances to the adult form, including its orange wings, black, hairy head, and big bulging eyes that squint when exposed to light. The noises the Phosbat emits is also similar to that of the adult form. Its legs are stumpy, similar to those of the adult, but it lacks proper arms. It also lacks fluorescent lights upon its head, and only two fangs are visible in its mouth.
The Phosbat is a species of Aerodentia in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. They resemble their original counterpart in p3. These creatures are only found in the darkest of caves. Phosbats will wander around in groups, or spawn out of Phosbat Pods. If they spot Pikmin, they will run up to them and eat them. However, they are very frail and can be taken out in a few hits. Alternatively, Glowcaps or electrode circuits can be activated to produce light and scare away these creatures. Phosbats are mainly found around the Vehemoth Phosbat. When killed, they melt away.

Phosbats tend to wander around in circles, not moving anywhere, and they will give a short and slow chase if they spot a leader or Pikmin with their limited range of sight. Their bites pose little threat to leaders, unlike the Bulborb Larva, and they die very quickly. They can only live in dark environments such as caves and will take continuous damage as long as they are exposed to light. Therefore, they can easily be dealt with by activating the Common Glowcaps found in the caves where they grow. This will cause them to spring up and become a light source, scattering and damaging and potentially killing all nearby Phosbats.

Phosbat Pods are nest-like structures from which Phosbats spawn. If light from a Common Glowcap shines on top of one, it closes its opening, preventing it from spawning more Phosbats. If a Phosbat Pod doesn't activate before a light is shined on it, it will remain inert. Matured phosbats like the Vehemoth Phosbat may activate these through roars.

Phosbats return in Pikmin: Infection in Progress, appearing in one area only: Fungal Grotto, in which a large quantity is present. The largest group is encountered in the back-left clearing in Fungal Grotto, with twenty-seven Phosbats crowding the clearing. Defeating them all initiates the boss fight with the Vehemoth Phosbat. Not much of difference exists between Phosbats in Pikmin 3 and Pikmin: Infection in Progress other than small details, and the fact that they no longer perish when contacting light. If forced to, a Phosbat will waddle slowly through it, its eyes barely open. The President cannot carry Phosbat corpses because their bodies cannot be retrieved.
Appearance
Phosbats look almost identical to what they do in Pikmin 3, except for a few small differences. Their pupils now glow bright white in the dark, and their pupils contract severely when spotting a hostile force or peering at light. Its pupils will expound noticeably when looking at an enemy and biting towards it. Small spores that glow neon colors now dot the hair on their heads, originating from the incredible amount of fungi growing in Fungal Grotto.
Combat
When initiated into combat, a Phosbat will alternate between quick hops and waddling towards its prey. Once it reaches its opponent, a Phosbat will typically strafe around it while biting. Phosbats are easily vanquished, and swarming them will defeat them very easily. Their attacks are almost identical to that of Bulborb Larvae in that it can quickly eat Pikmin.

Notes

Olimar's notes

The Phosbat is an infant form of its counterpart, the Vehemoth Phosbat. Being extremely sensitive to light due to the pheromones excreted from its body, the creature spends its whole life in caves. With underdeveloped wings and a very weak exterior, these creatures rely on their mothers for food. However, Phosbats may be able to overwhelm smaller prey in groups... at the exchange of casualties. Phosbats have no self-preservation.

Louie's notes

These small creatures are best eaten flame-grilled and seasoned on a stick of three! Add potatoes or other vegetables for more flavor.

President’s notes

Whenever I wake up in the morning, I’m always running away from light too. Maybe these creatures just woke up on the wrong side of the bed?

Overlord’s thoughts

Even a small, fragile animal can have such a ferocious bite. My children will grow up to become great Phosbat mothers; I expect their species to flourish well.

Attacks Eats Pikmin

Phosbats return in Pikmin: Infection in Progress, appearing in one area only, Fungal Grotto, in which a large quantity is present. The largest group is encountered in the back-left clearing in Fungal Grotto, with twenty-seven Phosbats crowding it. Defeating them all initiates the boss fight with the Vehemoth Phosbat. They do not perish when exposed to light, and if forced to, a Phosbat will waddle slowly through it with its eyes squinted.

Phosbats look almost identical to their Pikmin 3 incarnation, except for a few small differences. Their pupils glow white in the dark, contract when seeing predators or light, and dilate when looking at and biting toward prey. Small, glowing, neon-colored spores from Fungal Grotto dot the hair on their face.

When initiated into combat, a Phosbat will alternate between quick hops and waddling toward its prey. Once it reaches its opponent, a Phosbat will typically strafe around it while biting. Phosbats are easily vanquished, and swarming them will defeat them very easily. They are similar to Bulborb Larvae in that they can rapidly eat Pikmin.
