Dwarf Red Bulborbs, also known as Dwarf Bulborbs, perfectly resemble Red Bulborbs in appearance, but are much smaller. They chase after and try to eat any prey that passes by. In p1, bothering one will make it release a loud scream, waking up the nearest Red Bulborb. Dwarf Bulborbs can be easily defeated by swarming them, or by throwing a single Pikmin directly on top of them.

In Pikmin 5: One More Game, the Dwarf Red Bulborb is similar to its previous incarnation, like in p1, it can scream upon noticing Pikmin and leaders to alert surrounding enemies to their presence.

Dwarf Red Bulborbs return unchanged in Pikmin V. ====Reel Notes====

Olimar's Notes
Timmy is the Dwarf Red Bulborb that appears in Pikmin: Antarctic Survival. Due to being a common encounter in the Chilly Valley, Timmy is likely to be one of the first Awakened residents to join the Diamond Settlement during the events of the game. Timmy doesn't have any particularly useful abilities, being an ordinary Dwarf Red Bulborb. However, Timmy does have a "secret stash" hidden away somewhere in the Chilly Valley, which he can lead an exploration team to after being Awakened.
Although initially identified as a juvenile red bulborb, groundbreaking new research indicates that this creature is in fact a member of the breadbug family. A close relative of the vanilla breadbug, it escapes predation through mimicry. Unique adaption of the red bulborb's crimson coloration allows the species to safely commingle. Such effective adaptation and obfuscation by a prey species is rare, indicating this clever creature is a master of mimicry.
Louie's Notes
For a blissful bisque, mince the entire beast finely and stir in with heavy cream, artichoke hearts, and a pinch of black pepper. Heat slowly until piping hot. Mmmmm... Rich and creamy!

In fanon games
Timmy is shown to be curious and outgoing, though he is a bit afraid of larger creatures, including Bulborbs. This fear of Bulborbs likely stems from his experiences in a Bulborb pack in the Empire Field, where he was ultimately discovered to be a Breadbug impostor rather than actually one of the Bulborbs' young, which led the other Bulborbs in the pack to try to eat him upon making this discovery. Timmy narrowly escaped, and fled to the Chilly Valley, where he is found by a search team in the game.
This is where users type in the fanon version of the Dwarf Red Bulborb.

MR
After fleeing to the Chilly Valley, Timmy encountered two other Breadbug mimics, Himadri and Mara, who recounted similar experiences with Bulborb packs. The three of them ended up forming a team, which they refer to as "The Gang". However, an attack from the Chilly Valley's tyrant would end up forcing the Gang to scatter in order to escape, and they were not able to find each other again after this. Thus, the three members of The Gang are encountered individually when exploring the Chilly Valley, and can only be reunited in the Diamond Settlement as they are encountered and Awakened.
MR
These common enemies return as common as they used to be.

PikSpore
Timmy seems to have a very poor sense of direction and becomes lost very easily, as shown by his difficulty in finding his own "secret stash" once he is recruited to the settlement, and his inability to find the other members of the Gang after they scattered.
PS
They appear in many caves, and retain their scream attack from Pikmin (game)
.
Olimar's Notes
"A prime example of the wonders of evolution, this breadbug species mimics an adult red bulborb to avoid predation. Dwarf red bulborbs are very social animals, often hunting in packs of three, and if threatened they will let out a loud scream that wakes up any nearby bulborbs."

Ship's Notes
Once the members of The Gang are all awakened and reunited, after a few days have passed, Timmy and the other two Dwarf Bulborbs unlock a special technique that they can use in search missions, which they refer to as "stack formation." This formation has the three Dwarf Bulborbs climb up onto each other's backs and form a tower of Dwarf Bulborbs, with Timmy at the top, Himadri in the middle, and Mara at the bottom. In this state, the three of them act as one cohesive unit, counting as one single creature for the purpose of exploration team size. The Gang's members are also able to use stack formation in battle, all running up to an enemy and biting at once in a combo attack.
"This disgusting little pest imitates a bigger disgusting pest. Olimar seems to love storing dead specimens inside my pod for "scientific reasons". Absolutely sickening! And when they start to decompose, eugh!"

Timmy's name doesn't seem to have any special meaning, unlike most character names in Pikmin: Antarctic Survival. Mainly, his name seems to connect him to the game's Red Bulborb, Tommy, as their names are very similar. It is also possible that his name is meant to reference the word "timid", as Timmy is frightened by large creatures, even those which have been Awakened. However, Himadri, the Snow Bulborb, also shares this quality, so it is unclear whether this connection is intentional.

They can only be fought in the Beginner Territory and can be uncommonly spotted in unreachable locations in all the other Territories. When spotted in unreachable ledges, Dwarf Red Bulborbs can be found sleeping much like normal Red Bulborbs. The Dwarf Bulborb is a returning enemy appearing in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. It retains its original design throughout the Pikmin games. Dwarf Bulborbs can be found idly sniffing the ground, usually by a Red Bulborb. If approached, they will yip and pursue their prey. They can eat up to one Pikmin at a time, although very slowly. If attacked, they have a small chance to screech, awakening any Red Bulborbs in their presence. Red Bulborbs are the weakest of all dwarves, being able to be defeated by a single Pikmin throw on its back.

Red Bulborb Younglings are always found near their parents, and like them, they sleep during the day in the overworld.

Just great. Another stinky bug eyed creature that come in the dozens to make my hold stinky. I don't care if it's red, there is JUST TOO MUCH!
Dwarf Red Bulborbs appear in Pikmin: Treacherous Treasures, once again as a species of breadbug that mimics adult Red Bulborbs. They appear almost identical to the Red Bulborb, however, they are smaller in size. They are usually found in pairs near Red Bulborbs, sniffing the ground for Pikmin or leaders. They can easily be defeated by swarming them, but tossing a Pikmin directly on top of one will instantly defeat it. Alternatively, a leader can defeat it just by punching it. Just make sure to avoid its bites. When under attack, a Dwarf Red Bulborb may let out a screech, alerting nearby adult bulborbs and dwarf bulborbs. Additionally, when a bomb rock explodes somewhere near it, it might investigate the source of the sound.

Dwarf Red Bulborbs appear in several places in Pikmin: The Winds of Light. So far, they appear in The Summoning Garden near the Queer Thingamabob, two on Sublevel 1, and three on Sublevel 2 of the Melodic Maze, three on Sublevel 2, eight on Sublevel 3 of the Architect's Playground, one on Sublevel 2, and six on Sublevel 3 of the Yellow Depths.

Olimar's Notes
The Dwarf Red Bulborb is a breadbug mimic and grub-dog appearing in Pikmin: Wide World. It is exclusive to Balmy Highlands and its caves, much like its larger counterpart or form, the Red Bulborb. It typically remains stationary, sniffing the ground around it in hopes of picking up the scent of Pikmin or leaders, but occasionally relocates elsewhere in its small territory. A Dwarf Red Bulborb may occasionally fall asleep, resting in various positions until it eventually wakes up on its own, or is disturbed by touch, harm, or a sound loud enough to rouse it from its slumber. It is never alone, always in pairs or groups of up to 5 individuals, and often in the company of 1 to 2 Red Bulborbs. When Pikmin or leaders approach, a Dwarf Red Bulborb will notice them after a short delay and then pursue them to eat them. If they leave its territory, it will resume its idle behaviors. Dwarf Red Bulborbs always act as a group, moving together and attacking in numbers, such that when one conscious Dwarf Red Bulborb notices prey, it will give a small yip that catches the attention of or wakes up others in its group so that they may overwhelm their prey.

Dwarf Red Bulborb
In terms of appearance, a Dwarf Red Bulborb is essentially a miniature Red Bulborb. It has the physiology of a typical bulborb, having a tapered snout and rotund backside. It has light skin, a crimson rump with white spots, a pair of small eyes supported by eyestalks, and bi-clawed feet. As well, its irises are blue and its sclerae are white.

Pansarus pseudoculii russus
Taking down a Dwarf Red Bulborb is often a quick, simple task even when multiple are involved. Charging or swarming Pikmin at them is a viable strategy, but landing a Pikmin on top of one will smite it instantly. Neither White Pikmin nor Winged Pikmin can be used for the latter strategy due to their light weight, and they will simply latch on and begin pummeling from there. When irritated or overwhelmed by attacks, a Dwarf Red Bulborb may emit a shrill shriek that attracts the attention of nearby creatures and wakes up any that are sleeping, especially larger grub-dogs. Upon death, it will release a shrill, attention-catching yelp before collapsing, but if killed by landing a Pikmin on it, it will die silently.

Breadbug Family
In ultra-spicy difficulty, Dwarf Red Bulborbs are much quicker to notice nearby Pikmin and leaders and more persistent.

Why Breadbugs would attempt to mimic other creatures (especially Grub-Dogs) when they have no known predators is crazy. Maybe the breadbugs need a different, more effective way to gain nutrients, although mimicry has caused them to lose their pulling ability.

Dwarf Red Bulborbs, also known as Dwarf Bulborbs, perfectly resemble Red Bulborbs in appearance, but are much smaller. They chase after and try to eat any prey that passes by. In Pikmin 1, bothering one will make it release a loud scream, waking up the nearest Red Bulborb. Dwarf Bulborbs can be easily defeated by swarming them, or by throwing a single Pikmin directly on top of them.

In Pikmin 5: One More Game, the Dwarf Red Bulborb is similar to its previous incarnation, like in Pikmin 1, it can scream upon noticing Pikmin and leaders to alert surrounding enemies to their presence.

Notes

Olimar's notes

Although initially identified as a juvenile Bulborb, groundbreaking new research indicates that this creature is in fact a member of the breadbug family. A close relative of Breadbug, it escapes predation through mimicry. The unique adaptation of the Bulborb's crimson coloration allows the species to safely commingle.

Mmm... Rich and creamy!

The President's notes

A basic predatory nature like any standard pet and the average size allows it to be the perfect guard dog, only 100 Pokos for one!

Attacks Eats Pikmin

Dwarf Red Bulborbs return unchanged in Pikmin V. They are not as ubiquitous as in other games, as they only appear in the earlier parts of the first two regions; the other two mimics, Dwarf Orange Bulborbs and Snow Bulborbs, take their place in the Forest of Seeming and Polar Mountain, respectively, and Dwarf Bulbears wander Sealed Valley instead.

Notes

Brittany's notes

The genus known commonly as the Dwarf Bulborbs is actually a group of mimics and not real Grub-dogs. It is a symbiotic relationship, as the Dwarves act as sentries for sleeping Bulborbs during the day, allowing them to better protect themselves and the Dwarves that accompany them. Real Bulborb infants are nocturnal like their parents and sleep underground, and they are quite vulnerable in comparison to the deceptively full-grown Breadbug mimic.

Olimar's notes

By hitting it directly on the top, it can be killed instantly. Even if you're not comfortable with your aim, pelt it with Pikmin until it works or otherwise overwhelms the target.

Louie's notes

A new staple food of the Hocotatian diet due to its economic size, commonality, and conduciveness to flavoring.

Timmy seems to have a very poor sense of direction and becomes lost very easily, as shown by his difficulty in finding his own "secret stash" once he is recruited to the settlement, and his inability to find the other members of the Gang after they scattered.

Dwarf Red Bulborbs can be found in several positions while sleeping, such as lying on their left and right sides and their stomachs. Three Dwarf Red Bulborbs can be fought when Captain Olimar lands in the Beginner Territory. A Dwarf Red Bulborb is found battling three Red Pikmin while the other two can be found observing to ground near the scuffle. This is the only instance in which Dwarf Red Bulborbs do not serve as ambiance.

Notes

Olimar's notes

This has been reclassified as a breadbug. How it got from being a thing that drags stuff to its nest to a diurnal predator is unknown. It has good mimicry, as the red bulborb mistakes it for its young. That, or it is stupid.

It may look like a younger version of the standard bulborb, but lo and behold, this is a separate species. Even further, it isn't even a part of the grub-dog family, rather, it is a relative of the breadbug. It looks the way it does because it seeks protection from Red Bulborbs. If a predator attacking the breadbug wakes up a nearby Red Bulborb, it will certainly regret it.

Louie's notes

When minced up with carrots and combined with a savory cream, the Dwarf Red Bulborb can provide one with a delicious bisque. Just sprinkle in some black pepper and you're set!

Ship's comments

As repugnant as it may be, I still think it has more class and finesse than its kin. Those mongrels don't fight, they run off with important supplies. Low-lifes!

Notes

Piklopedia entry

Young Red Bulborb / Pansarus pseudooculii russus / Grub-dog family. The Young Red Bulborb should not be mistaken with the Dwarf Red Bulborb. The Young Red Bulborb is a child of the Red Bulborb, and is noted by the parents' protective behavior over it.
 • Biology: Has the same behaviors as all other bulborbs. They only have bones in the legs and head, as their back is made of muscle connecting all bones. It is quite soft, with even the lightest impacts causing catastrophic damage to the back muscle. The heart is the size of the top half of the body in this stage of life but does not grow with the bulborb.
 • Habitat: Lives with the parent Red Bulborb, in non-cold areas.
 • Daily life: Searches the ground for small things to eat, unlike the sleeping parents. On exposure to danger, the Young Red Bulborb cries out, waking up all adult bulborbs nearby.

Notes

Olimar’s notes

If you haven’t known yet, the dwarf red bulborb is not actually in the grub-dog family, but actually part of the breadbug family. That’s buying the dwarf red bulborb ability to mimic a red bulborb's crimson coloration and is one of the most common creatures found on PNF-404. They mimic the red bulborb to not get eaten by a predator but the weird thing is there are no predators of the breadbugs. So what is the mimicking even for?

Louie’s notes

This creature is most famous for the blissful bisque with artichoke hearts and a bit of black pepper. People back on Hocotate love the creamy taste of this dwarf red bulborb bisque!

Attacks Eats Pikmin

Attacks Eats Pikmin, screams

In ultra-spicy difficulty, Dwarf Red Bulborbs are much quicker to notice nearby Pikmin and leaders and more persistent.

Notes

 • PWW Data file icon.png Data file #1 (all difficulties): A Dwarf Red Bulborb will hunt when it isn't sleeping.
 • PWW Data file icon.png Data file #2 (ultra-spicy difficulty only): Dwarf Red Bulborbs are quick to act and don't give up easily.

Olimar's comments

PWW Captain Olimar icon.png This dwarf grub-dog, whether a juvenile grub-dog or a breadbug mimic, is one of the most common species to grace the face of this planet. It can quickly adapt to any environment it inhabits.

Shacho's comments

PWW President icon.png Maybe taming a couple of these could be a worthy investment for a new way to get around! But how would I direct it around? Tie a pikmin to a stick? I guess a pikpik carrot will do...

Marie's comments

PWW Marie icon.png Dwarf red bulborbs are one of the more tame species on PNF-404. They are quick to become friendly and affectionate toward those who feed them. They are notorious for stealing table scraps, though...

Louie's comments

PWW Louie icon.png Shredded, the meat of this beast makes for a fine bisque when combined with sour cream. Add artichoke hearts, a dash of pepper, a pinch of salt, and chopped scallions, and heat slowly until bubbling. Let cool, and enjoy!

Dolphin Lander's comments

PWW Dolphin Lander icon.png Olimar has plenty of notes regarding this creature, so I can only assume they were common encounters on previous visits to PNF-404. It's very fortunate they're so relatively docile!

Dwarf Red Bulborbs appear in several places in Pikmin: The Winds of Light. They appear in the Summoning Garden near the Queer Thingamabob. Underground, they appear in the following locations: in the Melodic Maze, two appear in sublevel one and three appear in sublevel two; in Architect's Playground, three appear in sublevel two and eight appear in sublevel three; and lastly, in Yellow Depths, one appears in sublevel two and six appear in sublevel three.

Notes

Olimar's notes

Why breadbugs would attempt to mimic other creatures, especially grub-dogs, when they have no known predators is crazy. Maybe the breadbugs need a different, more effective way to gain nutrients, although mimicry has caused them to lose their ability to pull objects.

Dwarf Red Bulborbs appear in many caves, and retain their scream attack from Pikmin 1. They are found in the Cliffside Meadow, Spectral Garden, The Walkway, Petrified Arbor, Flowery Cavern, Bulborb Den, Shining Forest, Dreadful Maze, Cave of Angles, Challenger's Cavern, and Cannon of Chaos.

Notes

Olimar's notes

A prime example of the wonders of evolution, this breadbug species mimics an adult red bulborb to avoid predation. Dwarf red bulborbs are very social animals, often hunting in packs of three, and if threatened they will let out a loud scream that wakes up any nearby bulborbs.

Ship's notes

This disgusting little pest imitates a bigger disgusting pest. Olimar seems to love storing dead specimens inside my pod for "scientific reasons". Absolutely sickening! And when they start to decompose, eugh!
